Beautiful, vintage, French baguette proofing mould tray from the 1930's.
This particular type of long, wooden "trough" with sloped sides, was originally used by bakers for "proofing" (or proving) dough to make baguettes, which is essentially the period when dough has its "final rise", before being baked.
Made sometime in the early 1930's with poplar wood, this piece is in wonderful, original and vintage condition. There are, of course, some signs, and marks of age and previous usage commensurate with time, on the overall structure, inner sides and base, outer sides and edges (see photos). It's maintained a very nice patina of time (see photos.) It has been cleaned, treated and polished with linseed oil, to preserve its integrity and original patina of time as much as possible. It remains stable and solid.
A charming, rustic, French provincial piece of decor for any given space, whether displayed on its own, used as a centerpiece on a dining table in which to put flowers or candles, as a long fruit bowl or serving tray in the kitchen or dining room, in a bathroom to nicely display towels, or to display on shelf or mantle in which to place certain decorative objects.
