Finest Meissen Porcelain Figurine: Posing dancer, depicting Vaclav Nijinsky as a bajazzo (or harlequin), with his upper body leaning slightly forward, standing on his right leg, slightly raising his left with his foot extended downward, turning his upper body to the left, opening his mouth to grin, and bringing his left hand, stretched flat, to his chin, his right with the joint resting against his hip. The Bajazzo wears tight colorful harlequin pants, a loose white shirt with a large black bow around the collar and a black cap that reaches down mask-like to above his eye area, in his right hand the batte. The figure is supported from behind by a pedestal with white fringed cloth thrown over it and rests on round white fluted flat base. Designed by Paul SCHEURICH (1883-1945) who was painter, sculptor, graphic artist, drawer and stage designer. He worked for Meissen manufactory from 1913 to 1936 and belonged to one of most important porcelain designers of the first half of the 20th century. ON THE DESIGN: In 1919 Paul Scheurich designed and modeled five figures from the Russian ballet 'Carnival'. The ballet was arranged in St. Petersburg in 1910 by Mikhail Fokin after Robert Schuhmann's piano music and was danced in Berlin by the ballet company Sergei Diaghilews, a performance that Scheurich had deeply impressed. Raffinata statuetta in porcellana di Meissen: Danzatore in posa, raffigurante Vaclav Nijinsky come bajazzo (o arlecchino), con il busto leggermente inclinato in avanti, in piedi sulla gamba destra, sollevando leggermente la sinistra con il piede teso verso il basso, ruotando il busto verso sinistra, aprendo la bocca per sorridere e portando la mano sinistra, distesa, al mento, la destra con l'articolazione appoggiata al fianco. Il Bajazzo indossa pantaloni arlecchini stretti e colorati, una camicia bianca larga con un grande fiocco nero intorno al colletto e un berretto nero che scende a mo' di maschera fin sopra la zona degli occhi, mentre nella mano destra tiene la mazza. La figura è sostenuta da dietro da un piedistallo con un panno bianco a frange gettato sopra e poggia su una base piatta scanalata bianca. Disegnato da Paul SCHEURICH (1883-1945), pittore, scultore, grafico, disegnatore e scenografo. Lavorò per la manifattura di Meissen dal 1913 al 1936 e appartenne a uno dei più importanti designer di porcellana della prima metà del XX secolo. SUL DISEGNO: Nel 1919 Paul Scheurich disegnò e modellò cinque figure del balletto russo "Carnival". Il balletto fu arrangiato a San Pietroburgo nel 1910 da Mikhail Fokin sulla base della musica per pianoforte di Robert Schuhmann e fu danzato a Berlino dalla compagnia di balletto Sergei Diaghilews, una performance che aveva profondamente colpito Scheurich.
