Quando all'inizio degli anni '60 l'olandese "Gelderland" cerca un collegamento con il mercato del mobile moderno, secondo la tradizione, decide di contattare il giovane designer Rob Parry, noto anche per la cassetta delle lettere rossa che da anni si trova nell'immagine della strada olandese. Dopo una serie di disegni, secondo varie fonti, viene creata la base per la "poltrona Lotus", che non viene inserita nel programma di consegna molto più tardi e che sarebbe diventata una vera e propria icona del design.

La tappezzeria, compresi i cuscini e la struttura, è stata completamente rinnovata nel 2023 ed è più bella che mai. Le migliori schiume, i tessuti più belli e i migliori falegnami con esperienza in un modello specifico hanno fatto di questa poltrona un vero oggetto d'arte.
