Vintage Danish teak wall unit by Poul Cadovius for Cado, 1960s.
Mid-Century Modern 4 bay shelving system model Royal. This is a original vintage floating bookcase designed in 1948 by Danish architect Poul Cadovius.
Cadovius had the revolutionary idea to design a floating, modular shelving system that would maximize floor space and signify the end of conformity in shelving. The Royal System shelving unit went on to win the gold medal at the Finland Furniture Fair in 1950 and silver medal at the XI Triennale di Milano 1957 and remained a hallmark of Scandinavian modern design throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Versatile and flexible floating bookcase that allows for continuous rearranging to suit individual needs.
This set is configured with a secretary desk with drop down desk leaf with woven veneer pattern. Inside with four small drawers with visible finger joints, and a compartment with four cubby holes. This was the most expensive element of the Cado Royal system, at the time it cost the same as four Wegner Wishbone chairs.
Five of the shelves in this system has never been used before and has been kept in the original packing for sixty years.

Stamped "Made in Denmark" on the back. Patinated brass brackets.
This item can be disassembled for transport
Very good original condition with only a few light nicks and scratches. Light patina consistent with age and use. All parts have been checked and all surfaces has been cleaned and polished. Ready for use.

Sistema di scaffalature a 4 vani modello Royal, di stile Mid-Century Modern. Si tratta di una libreria galleggiante vintage originale progettata nel 1948 dall'architetto danese Poul Cadovius.
Cadovius ebbe l'idea rivoluzionaria di progettare un sistema di scaffalature modulari e fluttuanti che massimizzasse lo spazio a terra e segnasse la fine del conformismo nelle scaffalature. Lo scaffale Royal System vinse la medaglia d'oro alla Fiera del Mobile di Finlandia nel 1950 e la medaglia d'argento alla XI Triennale di Milano nel 1957 e rimase un segno distintivo del design moderno scandinavo per tutti gli anni Cinquanta e Sessanta. Libreria galleggiante versatile e flessibile, che consente di riorganizzarla continuamente in base alle esigenze individuali.
Questo set è configurato con una scrivania con anta a ribalta con motivo di impiallacciatura intrecciata. All'interno quattro piccoli cassetti con giunture a vista e un vano con quattro scomparti. Questo era l'elemento più costoso del sistema Cado Royal, all'epoca costava quanto quattro sedie Wegner Wishbone.
Cinque dei ripiani di questo sistema non sono mai stati utilizzati e sono stati conservati nell'imballaggio originale per sessant'anni.
