Versatile ARCH “ARCO” design lamp from the prestigious lighting brand Ateljé Lyktan, a Swedish lighting manufacturer with more than 85 years of history and a catalog of products that have defined Swedish design for the last century.
Its special design, which combines a circular base in white marble and a main structure in polished steel, from which 5 mobile light points emerge that seem to levitate, is a clear example of the most modern and innovative style. It is also a very representative work of the space age style.
More about the Space Age style…
The style known as Space Age or Space Age occurred between the late 50s and early 70s. It is based on the idea of an optimistic world after the success of atomic energy and space travel. Its aesthetic inspiration is the North American space race and everything that has to do with outer space such as space satellites, helmets, ships, the effect of weightlessness and an optimistic proposal for a new futuristic lifestyle. The sphere is adopted as the main morphological reference, as we see in the design of this lamp and each of its points of light, referring to satellites or space helmets.
This aesthetic had an influence on all fields of design: architecture, industrial products, interiors, clothing, graphics, textiles, etc... and also on great designers.
More about Ateljé Lyktan…
Ateljé Lyktan is a Swedish lighting company with a long tradition that develops, manufactures and markets luminaires for both interiors and exteriors. It pursues an aesthetic and design line with great appeal, which stands out for its innovative solutions.
In 1934 its founder, Hans Bergström, and his fiancée, Verna Norell, got a small workshop in the craft district of Helsingborg. It was then that he began his career in the world of lighting. The business prospered rapidly. A few years later, in 1936, the company moved to the picturesque town of Åhus, in the south of Sweden. There they establish their company and their home.
The company has prospered to this day, creating true design icons, such as its "ARCH" collection models, which express lighting reduced to the symbol of the arch itself. This lamp is one of the iconic models of the firm, which combines the luxury of marble in the base and the game of arches that the structure itself creates.
STATUS: the two lowest light points do not illuminate, only the three upper ones light up.
Total dimensions: 207 x 107 x 92 cm
Marble base dimension: 35 cm in diameter.
