In regards to:
There was no official name for this popular design by Victor Wilkins for G Plan, but as they are linked in the design to the "Astro tables", it was the internal name that was allocated to them.
The British designer of furniture Victor Bramwell (V.B.) Wilkins is mainly known for its Fresco range for G-Plan.
Although all Wilkins' work has been produced by G-Plan, little biographical information is available on this designer. However, it can be assumed that he worked as an internal designer for the British manufacturer for many years.
In the 1960s, the British manufacturer of furniture G-Plan established the standard for modernist consumer furniture in the United Kingdom in post-war period. In order to compete with imported Scandinavian furniture, G-Plan hires designer IB Kofod-larsen (1921-2003), which creates several designs for the company. It is assumed that Wilkins was strongly influenced by the creations of Kofod-larsen, his pieces being often attributed by mistake to Kofod-larsen.
In the wake of Kofod-larsen's success, the Fresco range of Wilkins is influenced by Scandinavian design. Designed in 1966 and launched the following year, the G-Plan range having met the most success, includes a series of furniture for all the pieces, all finished in teak with a rich and elegant grain. The design itself combines the elegant and sculptural aesthetic of Italian furniture with a unique Scandinavian style, so popular at the time.
In addition to the FRESCO range, Wilkins designs the Astro coffee table (1969), with clear references to the in-50 coffee table (1944) by designer Isamu Noguchi and the Spider (1970) auxiliary table. The two models are made up of databases in curved teak similar to the forms which have given them their name, although the last is often called Astro in contemporary catalogs.
It is estimated that Wilkins continues to create for G-Plan until the mid-1970s, but we don't know the details of his life outside his work for the manufacturer. Today, the Astro coffee table is one of the most sought after parts in Wilkins, just like Fresco furniture and thumbnails, less rare but just as elegant.

In merito a:
