Instability 3 is an original painting realized by the Italian artist Salvatore Travascio in 2003. This is a beautiful piece, in oil paint and silver on wood. Perfect conditions. What has motivated the artist for many years is his interest in investigating the relation that man has with himself, with others, and with the surrounding world, as well as his interest in the way man has of perceiving himself and the others, and in how all this affects his evolution. This study ended up in artworks that aim at destructuring, destabilizing, and shattering a static and known perception in order to foster a new and unexpected one. In this work the letter that appears in the foreground is the M, with the waves in the background. On the back, printed writings certainly derived from. The etching belongs to the print-series Antichità di Ercolano Esposte (original title: Le Antichità di Ercolano Esposte), eight volumes of engravings of the finds from the excavation of the ruins of Herculaneum in the Kingdom of Naples (today Campania, Italy). It was published between 1757 and 1792 by the Regia Stamperia and later these copies were delivered to selected recipients throughout Europe. Despite the title, the Antiquity of Herculaneum shows objects from all the excavations undertaken by the Bourbons in the Gulf of Naples. These include Pompeii, Stabia and two sites of Herculaneum: Resina and Portici. The Bourbon king Charles commissioned fifteen scholars to create a new “Herculaneum Academy” to study the finds and publish the results of the archaeological excavations of the sites. The engravings are of high quality and the accompanying text shows a large scholarship. They were made by 25 leading artists involved by the King to prepare drawings and engravings on the finds, among which we find Giovanni Elia Morghen, Carlo Nolli, Luigi Vanvitelli and Giovanni Battista Casanova. The "Antiquity" was designed more to amaze readers with the quality of the objects in the collection of the King of Naples than to be used in research, following and increasing the interest of eighteenth-century society for classical culture and art in particular. Through the exaltation of the classical concept of proportion and harmony, the book inspired the neoclassical movement in Europe, giving artists and decorators access to a vast workshop of Hellenistic motifs. Ciò che ha motivato l'artista per molti anni è il suo interesse nell'indagare la relazione che l'uomo ha con se stesso, con gli altri e con il mondo circostante, così come il suo interesse nel modo che l'uomo ha di percepire se stesso e gli altri, e come tutto ciò influisce sulla sua evoluzione. Questo studio è sfociato in opere d'arte che mirano a destrutturare, destabilizzare e frantumare una percezione statica e conosciuta per favorirne una nuova e inaspettata. In quest'opera la lettera che appare in primo piano è la M, con le onde sullo sfondo. Sul retro, scritte stampate certamente derivate. L'incisione appartiene alla serie di stampe Antichità di Ercolano Esposte (titolo originale: Le Antichità di Ercolano Esposte), otto volumi di incisioni dei reperti provenienti dagli scavi delle rovine di Ercolano nel Regno di Napoli (oggi Campania, Italia). Fu pubblicato tra il 1757 e il 1792 dalla Regia Stamperia e successivamente queste copie furono consegnate a destinatari selezionati in tutta Europa. Nonostante il titolo, l'Antichità di Ercolano mostra oggetti provenienti da tutti gli scavi intrapresi dai Borboni nel Golfo di Napoli. Questi includono Pompei, Stabia e due siti di Ercolano: Resina e Portici. Il re Borbone Carlo incaricò quindici studiosi di creare una nuova "Accademia Ercolanese" per studiare i reperti e pubblicare i risultati degli scavi archeologici dei siti. Le incisioni sono di alta qualità e il testo che le accompagna mostra una grande erudizione. Furono realizzate da 25 importanti artisti coinvolti dal Re per preparare disegni e incisioni sui reperti, tra i quali troviamo Giovanni Elia Morghen, Carlo Nolli, Luigi Vanvitelli e Giovanni Battista Casanova. L'"Antichità" fu concepita più per stupire i lettori con la qualità degli oggetti della collezione del re di Napoli che per essere utilizzata nella ricerca, seguendo e incrementando l'interesse della società settecentesca per la cultura classica e l'arte in particolare. Attraverso l'esaltazione del concetto classico di proporzione e armonia, il libro ispirò il movimento neoclassico in Europa, dando accesso ad artisti e decoratori ad un vasto laboratorio di motivi ellenistici.
