This is a Poul Volther easy chair in wonderful original condition with a great deep patina to the natural leather. This model is rarely seen and was only produced for a short while in the early 1960s. The style is typical for the Danish Modern era and resembles works by Hans J. Wegner and Poul Kjærholm from the same period. This chair has only had one owner who bought it directly from Erik Jørgensens workshop in 1961. Wear consistent with age and use. Information about Poul Volther (1923-2001): He belongs to a generation of popular Danish architects who have deep roots in good craftsmanship. His style was based on Scandinavian functionalism, which with a modern twist found a middle ground between the Bauhaus style and the Classic, practical work. In 1949, he was employed at FDB’s studio with the help of the well-known Hans Wegner. Here he first worked under Børge Mogensen until 1959, when Mogensen left FDB and Volther became leader. Volther’s style was simple, functional and beautiful. Which has resulted in a large number of his design classics having found their way into many thousands of Danish homes, where they are still seen to this day.
