High relief marble medallion, signed and dated on the border "Edward William Wyon, June 1848", representing two children, a girl holding her little sister. The work is marked with a small bronze engraving on the back, certifying its authenticity.
Edward William Wyon (1811-1885) was a sculptor who specialized in medallions and was renowned as a sculptor and engraver. He was the follower of a dynasty of medallists and engraver-chiselers.
Wyon studied at the Royal Academy Schools from 1829. Among his commissions were works for reproduction by Wedgwood and numerous bust portraits. He made bas-reliefs for the Draper's House in London (1866), and 2 caryatids for the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge (1874)
The work is presented in a gilded wood frame, rocaille style, Victorian period, mid 19th century, 1848

Medaglione in marmo ad alto rilievo, firmato e datato sul bordo "Edward William Wyon, giugno 1848", raffigurante due bambini, una bambina che tiene in braccio la sorellina. L'opera è contrassegnata da una piccola incisione in bronzo sul retro, che ne certifica l'autenticità.
Edward William Wyon (1811-1885) era uno scultore specializzato in medaglioni e rinomato come scultore e incisore. Era il seguace di una dinastia di medaglisti e incisori-scalpellini.
Wyon studiò alla Royal Academy Schools a partire dal 1829. Tra le sue commissioni vi sono opere per la riproduzione di Wedgwood e numerosi ritratti di busti. Realizzò bassorilievi per la Draper's House di Londra (1866) e 2 cariatidi per il Fitzwilliam Museum di Cambridge (1874)
