Pastel drawings, Garstin Cox, Late 19th-Early 20th Century
Wonderful couple of pastels attributed to the British impressionist painter Garstin Cox. In both pieces, a natural landscape is represented that has as its protagonist a river in the center of the composition. The use of pastel brings light and softness to the scene, which makes it ideal to place it in any room. Of very clean and loose strokes, in a very pleasant landscape . Depth and light are two virtuous qualities achieved by the artist.
Signed.
William Garstin Cox
Son of the artist William Cock, Garstin was born in 1892 in Camborne, Cornwall (England) under the surname Cock; A short time later, specifically 1900, his father decided to change Cock's family last name.
Garstin began his studies at the Camborne Art School, where he studied together with the artist Stanhope Forbes and St Ives with John Noble Barlow. By 1907 he creates a study with his father, the Beach Studio, where they will work together to the outbreak of the First World War.
Cox exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy and in the Guildhall of London. He married Dorothy Charlotte Pike in 1920 and had his son Garstin T. Cox a year later. Finally, he died on February 28, 1933 because of pneumonia.
As for his technique, he highlights the work of the pastel, but we also know that he also dedicated himself to oil. Its compositions are mainly based on natural landscapes.
