Composition is a wonderful abstract chalcography and serigraphy realized by the brilliant artist Shu Takahashi in 1973. It is a hand-signed edition of 25 pieces. Slight foxing. Shu Takahashi was born in Hiroshima in 1930. In 1950 he moved to Tokyo and in spite of mother's opposition to his artistic aspiration, entered Musashino Academy of Fine Arts. He has been living and working in Rome since 1963. In 1987 he received the Education Ministers Art Encouragement Prize and the next year the Japan Arts Grand Prix (This award is given to one of the best works of art of the year by the Shinchosha). In 1996 he taught at the Kurashiki University of Sciences and Arts. In his country, he formed together with other artists the “Nouveau Art Group”, aimed at revolutionary visual language. In 1956 he held his first solo exhibition. He received the Dokuritsu Prize and his ‘Way to the Moon’ was bought by the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art, which awarded him the Yasui Prize for new artists. He became well-known in Italy and since 1969 he has formed a stable relationship with the Galleria dell’Ariete in Milan. He took part in the Venice Biennale in 1976 and in the Rome Quadriennale in 1977. Amongst his exhibitions his Retrospective at the GNAM in Rome (1993) and the 2003-2004 Spirit of Gold Exhibition at the Edoardo Chiossone Oriental Art Museum in Genoa.

Shu Takahashi è nato a Hiroshima nel 1930. Nel 1950 si trasferisce a Tokyo e, nonostante l'opposizione della madre alle sue aspirazioni artistiche, entra all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Musashino. Dal 1963 vive e lavora a Roma. Nel 1987 ha ricevuto il Premio per l'Incoraggiamento all'Arte dei Ministri dell'Educazione e l'anno successivo il Japan Arts Grand Prix (questo premio viene assegnato dalla Shinchosha a una delle migliori opere d'arte dell'anno). Nel 1996 ha insegnato all'Università di Scienze e Arti di Kurashiki. Nel suo paese ha formato insieme ad altri artisti il "Nouveau Art Group", finalizzato a un linguaggio visivo rivoluzionario. Nel 1956 tiene la sua prima mostra personale. Riceve il Premio Dokuritsu e la sua "Via della Luna" viene acquistata dal Museo Nazionale d'Arte Moderna di Tokyo, che gli conferisce il Premio Yasui per i nuovi artisti. Si è fatto conoscere in Italia e dal 1969 ha instaurato un rapporto stabile con la Galleria dell'Ariete di Milano. Ha partecipato alla Biennale di Venezia nel 1976 e alla Quadriennale di Roma nel 1977. Tra le sue mostre la Retrospettiva alla GNAM di Roma (1993) e la mostra Spirit of Gold 2003-2004 al Museo d'Arte Orientale Edoardo Chiossone di Genova.
