Xavery Dunikowski created a unique style that influenced masses and successive generations of artists. During the Second World War, he was in the concentration camp in Oświęcim, where the presented sculpture was made.
Franciszek Xawer Dunikowski (1876-1962) is an outstanding Polish sculptor, painter and teacher. He started his studies in the studio of Bolesław Syrewicz and Leopold Wasilkowski, and was quickly appreciated and awarded with prizes. He began studies at the School of Fine Arts in Krakow. From the very beginning, his works have received numerous awards, incl. he received a gold medal for his diploma thesis. With time, he continued his education under Konstanty Laszczka. At the beginning of the 20th century, he set off on a journey to the Middle East and Italy. During World War I, he lived in Paris, and after returning to Poland, he became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and held this position until the outbreak of World War II. In 1940 he was arrested and stayed in the concentration camp in Oświęcim until liberation. After the war, he returned to his academic career at the most famous Polish art academies, i.e. in Kraków, Warsaw and Wrocław.

Franciszek Xawer Dunikowski (1876-1962) è un eccezionale scultore, pittore e insegnante polacco.
