Exceptional wall tapestry with a vertical profile made by machine in the 19th century and coming from the Convent of the French Dominican Sisters of Valladolid.
The textile work responds to a vertical format made by machine and is composed of a large border of coats of arms and vegetal decoration that frames the central part of the tapestry. In the center, we find the figure of a French archer holding a sword and shield, a shield that possibly belongs to the family. Above this figure is a magnificent neutral background decorated with a fleur-de-lis pattern, probably linked to its French origin. It stands out for the use of unconventional colors, very striking, which respond to a chromatic range of pink, orange and bluish tones.
from its remote origins, these pieces of craftsmanship fulfilled both an aesthetic and functional function, as they were used to cover the walls of some very important buildings. As one of the most time-consuming and costly techniques, tapestries were true symbols of authority.
Due to the transfer and sale of the patrimony of this French Dominican school, this precious tapestry was found. Many of the women who entered the colleges as nuns came from powerful French families who, with the dowry of their daughters, gave all kinds of donations to these convents.
