Dutch school of the second half of the 17th century. Great oil artwork on canvas depicting a portrait of a nobleman of excellent pictorial quality. Painting referable to the painter Sir Peter Lely (1618-1680), active in England from 1640, lacking authenticity. Antoon Van Dyck's successor as court painter, he was one of the most sought-after portraitists in London and throughout the kingdom. The quality with which the drapery of the dressing gown was created is noteworthy, embellished with meticulous details and chiaroscuro effects. The setting is particular as the gentleman with the wig is represented immersed in a romantic landscape. The wig trend began with Louis XIV who was struck by baldness at the age of 35. It thus became royal fashion as it did not have to hide a hair but be a real decorative element. In this way the Sun King transformed an impairment into a strength and so the wig became an indispensable element for the clothing of nobles throughout Europe. Antique frame with a strong visual impact, adapted to the painting, in carved, lacquered and gilded wood. Work that has undergone conservative restoration, relining, replacement of the frame and restoration of color in some places (see photo). Overall, the painting is in a good state of conservation. Scuola olandese della seconda metà del XVII secolo. Grande opera a olio su tela raffigurante il ritratto di un nobile di eccellente qualità pittorica. Dipinto riferibile al pittore Sir Peter Lely (1618-1680), attivo in Inghilterra dal 1640, privo di autenticità. Successore di Antoon Van Dyck come pittore di corte, fu uno dei ritrattisti più richiesti a Londra e in tutto il regno. Notevole è la qualità con cui è stato realizzato il panneggio della vestaglia, impreziosito da dettagli minuziosi e da effetti chiaroscurali. L'ambientazione è particolare, in quanto il gentiluomo con la parrucca è rappresentato immerso in un paesaggio romantico. La moda della parrucca iniziò con Luigi XIV che fu colpito dalla calvizie all'età di 35 anni. Divenne così una moda regale in quanto non doveva nascondere un capello ma essere un vero e proprio elemento decorativo. In questo modo il Re Sole trasformò una menomazione in un punto di forza e così la parrucca divenne un elemento indispensabile per l'abbigliamento dei nobili di tutta Europa. Cornice antica di forte impatto visivo, adattata al dipinto, in legno intagliato, laccato e dorato. Opera che ha subito un restauro conservativo, una ribattitura, la sostituzione della cornice e il ripristino del colore in alcuni punti (vedi foto). Nel complesso, il dipinto è in buono stato di conservazione. Dimensioni della vista H 119 x L 98 cm.
