Our upholster has stripped chair back to the wood frame (picture to be added shortly) he has then rebuilt the chair from the ground up using all the original padding, the springs are new, the leather upholstery is all premium 100% English fully aniline russet leather which was upholstered plain, the chair was then hand dyed this lovely whisky brown colour by our leather polishers, all the stud work is hand nail tacked in place and finished with antiqued brass studs, the methods are all traditional and in keeping with the chairs age You won't find a better example of this piece anywhere in the world, it is the finest on the market today Dimensions: Height 90cm Width 68cm Depth 94cm Gillows of Lancaster and London, also known as Gillow & Co., was an English furniture making firm based in Lancaster, Lancashire, and in London. It was founded around in Lancaster in about 1730 by Robert Gillow (1704–1772).[1] Gillows was owned by the family until 1814 when it was taken over by Redmayne, Whiteside, and Ferguson; they continued to use the Gillow name. Gillows furniture was a byword for quality, and other designers used Gillows to manufacture their furniture. Gillows furniture is referred to by Jane Austen, Thackeray and the first Lord Lytton, and in one of Gilbert and Sullivan comic operas. In 1903 Gillows merged with Warings of Liverpool to become Waring and Gillow and although the furniture remained of a high quality it was not as prestigious.
