Chinese Coromandel Screen, Qing Dynasty, c. 19th
Lacquered and golden wood
Exclusive screen of four panels or coromandel -style leaves, belonging to the Qing China dynasty, the end of the 19th century. Different hand -painted landscapes are represented with a black lacquer background. In each panel you can see different valleys, hills, pages and human representations between wooded scenes. They have posters in Chinese calligraphy at the top.
On the reverse, polychrome flowers are represented in red and delineated again with gold, which stand out on the black lacquer. Each panel has feet made with the same wood. The original brass hardware are preserved.
This type of lacquered screen owes its name fundamentally to the port of the Costa de Coromandel of India where they embarked towards Europe. Its origin dates back to the seventeenth century, as an object desired by the most wealthy classes of the time due to its laborious and delicate elaboration. There was a high demand for them for their incredible beauty, their shortage and complexity.
They are a very special type of eastern pieces in the current market.
*Minor losses that do not hinder the global vision of the set. Nice patina according to its age and use.
Dimensions Each panel: 183 x 40 x 1'8 cm / Total dimensions 183 x 160 x 1'8 cm.
