The great scene is the work of the painter Nicola Boffa, Apulian of origin but then lived in Naples. It tells the dramatic death of the young genius of art Raffaello Sanzio, which took place just 37 years after a few days of a vainly treated persistent fever. Causes of his death were made several hypotheses (syphilis, malaria, pneumonia, poisoning ..) No certain: it is certain that it was a shocking fact in the Renaissance artistic world, in which the young Urbinate had achieved a great fame: it aroused condolence and regret in the same pontifical court, for which Raffaello was working. In the great scene, the Young artist now lives peacefully in his deathbed, while around him men and women of every extraction and social category express their pain and dismay: the high prelate next to the bed in a composed way, while all around young people and women are in Sbar tears, with the culmination of the manifestation of pain on the left, where a young man is going on the ground, comforted by a friar. The scene, albeit highly dramatica, is liven up by bright colors and by a detailed accuracy of the details of the figures; In it we find the nineteenth -century taste for the historical subject, to be told through the images that underline the painted pathos. It is presented in an important coeval setting, in shaped and golden carved wood.

La grande scena è opera del pittore Nicola Boffa, pugliese d'origine ma poi vissuto a Napoli. Racconta la drammatica morte del giovane genio dell'arte Raffaello Sanzio, avvenuta a soli 37 anni dopo alcuni giorni di una febbre persistente vanamente curata.Sulla cause della sua morte sono state fatte diverse ipotesi (sifilide, malaria, polmonite, avvelenamento...) nessuna certa: di certo è che essa fu un fatto sconvolgente nel mondo artistico rinascimentale, in cui il giovane urbinate aveva conseguito una grande fama: essa suscitò cordoglio e rammarico nella stessa corte pontificia, per la quale Raffello stava lavorando.Nella grande scena, Il giovane artista giace ormai sereno nel suo letto di morte, mentre intorno a lui uomini e donne di ogni estrazione e categoria sociale esprimono il loro dolore e sgomento: l'alto prelato accanto al letto in maniera composta, mentre tutto intorno giovani e donne sono in lacrime affranti, con il culmine della manifestazione di dolore a sinistra, dove un giovanotto giace svenuto per terra, confortato da un frate.La scena, seppur altamente drammatica, è vivacizzata da colori vivaci e da una dettagliata accuratezza dei particolari delle figure; in essa si ritrova il gusto ottocentesco per il soggetto storico, da raccontare attraverso le immagini che ne sottolineano il pathos.I dipinto è presentato in un'importante cornice coeva, in legno intagliato sagomato e dorato.La tela presenta diffuse piccole cadute di colore.
