Wonderful sideboard made by the Mercier Frères house, in the purest Art Deco style of the 1930s. It has an elegant slightly lobed and galloned profile, all enriched with an envelope of the extraordinary French marble of the Provence “Breche D ' ALEP ”that follows the same profile.
It has divisions into five records or drawers with metal shooters worked with geometric lines and dentated auction typical of the time. It also has doors with original bronze keys. The base, on the other hand, is composed of two large and solid toothed feet. In the corners it presents a beautiful carving of fruits and geometric shapes.
This extraordinary piece represents the best style and time Art Dèco.
Birch Lupia.
This furniture is made with a birch lia. Although in many places, this type of root wood is known as Lupia or Lobanillo, it has nothing to do with the root of the tree, if not with the deformations that the tissue can suffer throughout the stem.
These irregularities that appear in the wood have been subject to interest in cabinetries and have become a very quoted part for their undoubted value since they are extremely dense and resistant woods. In addition, the capricious forms that are drawn on their surface have given rise to a great appreciation for this material, caused great interest within currents such as the art deco, as they longed to have this wood of root so peculiar and equipped with a unique beauty . Its price reaches very high figures and therefore it is common to find it alternate with other types of wood.
This can be seen in the wonderful birch musique that we have in our collection.
Maison Mercier Frères.
Mercier Frères was an old decoration, upholstery and design furniture factory created in 1828 by Claude Mercier. It was located in Faubourg Saint-Antoine (Paris) and closed its doors in 1985. Due to its specialty in the manufacture of furniture, it worked with numerous European and Oriental cuts, especially with the imperial family of Iran.
He participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1867 of Paris and later in that of 1900 with a pavilion. So much was the fame achieved that even opened a branch in Buenos Aires in 1914 and shortly after, in 1920, a store in the Palais de Marbre, in 7713, Avenue des Champs-Elysées. In 1927 he also opened a branch in New York.
Dimensions: 108 x 142 x 52 cm. (On the sides the bottom is 46 cm.)
