Paulus the hermit is a beautiful black and white etching and burin( on copper) on ivory-colored paper, realized at the end of XVI century by the Flemish artist Joan or Johannes Sadeler (Brussels, 1550 - Venice 1600). Signed on plate ''I. Sadeler excudit'' on the lower margin at the center. With a long explicative inscription on plate on lower margin: ''Tempore quo Decii feruebat sua tyrannis, Christicolas duris pressit acerba malis. Territus his, fugiens Thebaide Paulus, eremit. intrat, et a coruo pabula grata capit''. In excellent condition, except for a usual yellowing of the paper due to the age. A beautiful wooden frame included, cm 25.4 x 1 x 29.3 This old master's original print with a lifetime impression and with full mastery of this artistic medium n and with the typical Flemish meticulousness and love for the details, is from the series ''Solitudo sive vitae patrum eremicolarum'' published by Sadeler from drawings by Maerten de Vos. A wonderful etching describing the life of the saint, realized by a member of one of the most renowned family of Flemish engravers, active in the 16th and 17th century. The best known is Gillis (Antwerp 1570 - Prague 1629), who stayed in Munich (1590, 1594) and in Rome (1593); from 1600 was active at the court of Prague. He was influenced by H. Goltzius; and made engravings of sacred and secular subjects, portraits, landscapes. Jan or Johannnes (Brussels 1550 - Venice 1600) was in Munich as a court engraver (1588-95) and then in Italy. He left prints of various subjects (series of the Seven Planets, 1585). We should also mention his brother Raphael (Antwerp around 1560 - Munich around 1628). Una bella cornice in legno inclusa, cm 25,4 x 1 x 29,3 Questa stampa originale del vecchio maestro con un'impressione a vita e con la piena padronanza di questo mezzo artistico e con la meticolosità e l'amore per i dettagli tipici fiamminghi, è della serie ''Solitudo sive vitae patrum eremicolarum'' pubblicata da Sadeler su disegni di Maerten de Vos. Una splendida acquaforte che descrive la vita del santo, realizzata da un membro di una delle più rinomate famiglie di incisori fiamminghi, attivi nel XVI e XVII secolo. Il più noto è Gillis (Anversa 1570 - Praga 1629), che soggiornò a Monaco (1590, 1594) e a Roma (1593); dal 1600 fu attivo alla corte di Praga. Fu influenzato da H.
