Repos is an original modern artwork realized in 1877 by the French etcher Charles Waltner (Paris, 1846 - Paris, 1925). Original etching on ivory paper. On the upper central margin the writing ''Salon 1877'' is impressed. On the lower margin: Repos (Appartient à Mr. A.Hartmann). Excellent conditions. Excellent work on paper depicting a female figure on a large sofa between precious fabrics and curtains. The woman's expression is very indolent and, in her right hand, she holds a fan. The interior is extremely rich and on the walls you can see paintings and works of art. The work, as it is written on the upper part, was proposed and accepted at the 1877 salon. This work has been realized by the French writen and etcher Charles Waltner (Paris, 1846 - Paris, 1925). He first devoted himself to painting and attended the studio of Jean-Léon Gérôme at the École des beaux-arts in Paris. He then turned to the art of engraving with Achille-Louis Martinet and Louis-Pierre Henriquel-Dupont. In 1868, he won the Prix de Rome in for the engraving. He then devoted himself to large-scale interpretive printmaking, notably works by Rembrandt. He also was a member of the jury and exhibited at the first international exhibition of white and black in 1885 at the Pavillon de Flore , and participated as a founder in the reopening of the National Society of Fine Arts in 1890 This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. Ottimo lavoro su carta raffigurante una figura femminile su un grande divano tra tessuti preziosi e tende. L'espressione della donna è molto indolente e, nella mano destra, tiene un ventaglio. L'interno è estremamente ricco e sulle pareti si possono vedere dipinti e opere d'arte. L'opera, così come è scritta nella parte superiore, fu proposta e accettata al salone del 1877. Quest'opera è stata realizzata dallo scrittore e incisore francese Charles Waltner (Parigi, 1846 - Parigi, 1925). Si dedicò dapprima alla pittura e frequentò lo studio di Jean-Léon Gérôme all'École des beaux-arts di Parigi. Si dedica poi all'arte dell'incisione con Achille-Louis Martinet e Louis-Pierre Henriquel-Dupont. Nel 1868 vince il Prix de Rome per l'incisione. Si dedicò poi alla stampa interpretativa su larga scala, in particolare alle opere di Rembrandt. Fu anche membro della giuria ed espose alla prima esposizione internazionale del bianco e del nero nel 1885 al Pavillon de Flore , e partecipò come fondatore alla riapertura della Società Nazionale delle Belle Arti nel 1890.
