Der Schatten II (Johannes Teuber sitzende ) is an original etching and drypoint, realized by Max Pechstein in 1918, signed and dated. Edition of 200 prints. Included a frame. In very good conditions. The artwork represents an old man seated in a bench with a flower fallen on the ground and his head bend toward the back as he is dreaming, in the background there is a nude dancing woman here the artwork represents skillful Expressionistic style of expression with strong lines and color. Max Pechstein (Zwickau, 1881- Berlin, 1955), German Expressionist painter and printmaker, Max Pechstein is known above all for his boldly colored nudes and landscapes. Primarily working in the Impressionist tradition, after joining the group of the Die Brücke together with E.L. Kirchner and H. Heckle, he began painting in a vibrant Fauvist palette. In a similar way as Gauguin, Pechstein was influenced by primitive art of other cultures after visiting the Dresden Ethnographical Museum. When the artist traveled to Italy (1907) he was struck by Giotto’s paintings and Etruscan art; when he travelled to the Palau Islands in the South Pacific (1914) He could experience first-hand the exotic culture. Unfortunately, in 1933 Pechstein's art was deemed ''degenerate'' with all the linked consequences by the Nazi regime.Today, Pechstein's works are part of the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Albertina in Vienna, and the Von der Heydt Museum in Wuppertal, Germany. Pechstein once affirmed: “Art is not a pastime, it is a duty with respect to the people, a public affair,” This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork.
In ottime condizioni.
