A visit to her studio and sculpture garden

Barbara Hepworth in St. Ives

Di Ambra Medda

Over the holidays I managed to go and see Barbara Hepworth's studio and sculpture garden in St Ives. It was was incredible. Visiting this magical little spot gives you insight into the world and work of one of Britain's most important artists of the twentieth century.

She lived and worked at Trweyn studio for over 25 years. The small building has now become a museum dedicated to her work; it's run by the Tate but has managed to retain an air of intimacy and privacy that is truly unique. You can walk freely throughout the spaces and the garden, enjoying the serene atmosphere Mrs Hepworth managed to create. Seeing her work and her tools laid out as of frozen in time was absolutely lovely, but it was the light in her studio and the vegetation in the garden that were the highlights for me.
