Antique early-20th Century Austrian novelty solid silver & enamel cigarette case, of rounded rectangular form, the surface of one side applied with a hand painted, multi-coloured and shaded enamels depicting a beautiful girl embracing a jolly pig with blue ribbon bow, the reverse is plain, the inside is richly parcel gilt.
Both sides of the case are Hallmarked with Austrian marks, Diana's head (900 standard, 1872-1922), Vienna (A), Russian import mark (84), Maker's mark G.A.S for Scheid Georg Adam, active in Vienna (Austria), Scheid completed a commercial apprenticeship until 1853 and subsequently worked in Pforzheim and Stuttgart. In 1858 he went to Vienna and worked there in the workshop of his future father-in-law, the silverware producer and jeweler Michael Markowitsch. Together they founded the OHG Markowitsch & Scheid in 1862. 20 years later, he left the thriving company and founded in 1882 under his name a jewelry factory and 1884 also the Georg Adam Scheid'sche Affinerie, from which later the Ögussa emerged. In 1911 he retired. His jewelry works bear the marks ''G.A.S. '' or ''S.G.A. '' and often the German hallmark ''Crescent and Crown''.
Retailed by J. H. Werner, jewelers to the German imperial court. Founded in 1870 until 1929. Werner’s main shop was on Friedrichstrasse 173 and another branch was opened after 1907 in the newly built Adlon Hotel near the Brandenburg gate.
Antico portasigarette austriaco dell'inizio del 20° secolo in argento massiccio e smalto, di forma rettangolare arrotondata, la superficie di un lato applicata con un dipinto a mano, multicolore e smalti sfumati che raffigura una bella ragazza che abbraccia un maiale allegro con fiocco blu, il retro è semplice, l'interno è riccamente dorato a pacchi.
Entrambi i lati della cassa sono marcati con marchi austriaci, testa di Diana (900 standard, 1872-1922), Vienna (A), marchio di importazione russo (84), marchio del fabbricante G.A.S per Scheid Georg Adam, attivo a Vienna (Austria), Scheid completò un apprendistato commerciale fino al 1853 e successivamente lavorò a Pforzheim e Stoccarda. Nel 1858 andò a Vienna e lavorò nel laboratorio del suo futuro suocero, il produttore di argenteria e gioielliere Michael Markowitsch.
