He designed for many mediums including metal ware, jewellery, terra-cotta garden ware, and graphic design. He was responsible for many of the designs in their Cymric silver and Tudric pewter ranges and his designs are generally accepted as the most accomplished. His designs drew on various influences but most notably the Celtic and Norse heritage of his birthplace, the Isle of Man. As a collector of local ancient artifacts and a scholar of Manx crosses and standing stones he combined strong simple forms with sparse but intricate detail. This, along with a perfect sense of form and proportion, resulted in an instantly recognisable style that has made Knox one of the most important names of the Arts & Crafts movement.
