Art Deco bar cabinet, Maple wood, circa 1930 – France
Extraordinary bar cabinet made in Art Deco style, around 1930 in France. It presents an exquisite workmanship both in the design and in the materials used. This elegant sideboard is made of maple wood, recognized for its soft texture and light color, also enriched with marquetry of high artisanal skill.
It presents a simple design influenced by the polygonal shapes of Art Deco. Its dimensions are compact, designed for urban homes or sophisticated spaces, adapting to the modern lifestyle. Closed, this piece of furniture is based on a main body with the two front corners beveled or rounded that soften the structure. It is configured in two different parts, the upper and lower, each with two doors, and stands on a base also with beveled corners. In addition, it has a removable tray that separates the two parts and serves as a kind of bar counter when supporting drinks.
On the outside, marquetry on the upper doors, as it presents ornaments such as bottles and glasses, details that enrich and reflect the purpose of the furniture. The lower part presents, on the outside, a carving with a bird's eye pattern, which provides an extraordinary texture.
As if that were not enough, this original decanter is perfectly equipped inside. When its upper doors are opened, a mirrored interior is revealed. These mirrors have the dual function of visually expanding the space and facilitating the preparation of drinks. For its part, the lower area has a central shelf that divides the space into two large sections. In addition, the two doors have a symmetrical configuration, divided into openwork shelves with circumferences, for glasses and more bottles.
In the 1930s and 1940s, French design was experiencing a transition between Art Deco and the more functional styles associated with the Modern Movement. Furniture like this reflects the zeitgeist, where home entertainment and compact furniture for small apartments were a maxim.
