Hippolyte Francois Moreau was a French sculptor famous for his bronze statuettes of young women and angels. Born in 1832 in Dijon, France, son of the famous sculptor Jean-Baptiste Moreau, he grew up learning in the workshop of his father. Young man, Moreau moved to Paris to study with François Jouffroy at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts.
He exhibited for the first time at the Salon of French Artists in 1863 and continues to present his works until 1914. Both in 1878 and in 1900, he won medals for his large-scale decorative works, vases and statuettes he shows at the universal Exhibition in Paris. Among his famous sculptures include his statue in 1880 the French mathematician Alexis Clairaut, now part of one of the facades of the city of Paris. He died in 1927 in Neuilly-sur-Seine in France and today most of his works are in the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon.
