Very nice sophisticated daybed sofa Model 981 designed by Poul Volther, manufactured by Gemla, Denmark. This sofa is nicknamed ‘Diva’ and features a sophisticated solid oak base that can be folded down to create a daybed. The sofa is recently upholstered with beautiful moss green Kvadrat fabric. The oak frame is in excellent original condition. Poul M. Volther was a Danish furniture designer who is remembered above all for his iconic Corona Chair. He succeeded Børge Mogensen as artistic director of FDB Møbler in 1950. First trained as a cabinetmaker, Volther studied furniture design at the Arts and Crafts School in Copenhagen. A believer in Functionalism, he avoided short-lived aesthetic trends, concentrating on the simple crafting of quality materials. As a teacher at Denmark’s Design School, he encouraged hundreds of students to aim for high quality craftsmanship. with the support of designer Hans Wegner, he was employed from 1949 by the cooperative FDB Møbler, working in their design studio under the leadship of Børge Mogensen. Mogensen left FDB in 1950, leaving Volther in charge from 1950-55.
Bellissimo e sofisticato divano letto da giorno modello 981, disegnato da Poul Volther e prodotto da Gemla, Danimarca. Questo divano è soprannominato "Diva" e presenta una sofisticata base in rovere massiccio che può essere ripiegata per creare un letto da giorno. Il divano è stato recentemente rivestito con un bellissimo tessuto Kvadrat verde muschio. La struttura in rovere è in ottime condizioni originali. Poul M. Volther è stato un designer di mobili danese ricordato soprattutto per la sua iconica Corona Chair. Succedette a Børge Mogensen come direttore artistico di FDB Møbler nel 1950. Formatosi come ebanista, Volther studiò design di mobili alla Arts and Crafts School di Copenhagen. Sostenitore del Funzionalismo, evita le tendenze estetiche di breve durata, concentrandosi sulla semplice lavorazione di materiali di qualità. Con il sostegno del designer Hans Wegner, dal 1949 fu assunto dalla cooperativa FDB Møbler, lavorando nel suo studio di design sotto la guida di Børge Mogensen. Mogensen lasciò la FDB nel 1950, lasciando a Volther il ruolo di responsabile dal 1950 al 1955.
