Enfilade by Gaston Poisson, 1950's - France Post-Art dèco / Brutalist
Extraordinary enfilade of Brutalist style and period, made in solid wood, with diamond point carved wood front and marquetry top. The author is Gaston Poisson, an important and well known French cabinetmaker of the 40's - 50's.
The furniture is of the highest quality, not only for the design but also for the materials used, which excellently exemplifies the craftsmanship and opulence of the Art Deco movement. This sideboard is divided into three bodies with doors, and inside the central door there is a register or drawer with a circular knob in ebonized wood.
Also in the interior it has fillets and marquetry in lemongrass, with which it makes geometric patterns, visible in the profile of the shelf. In addition, it has bronze fittings and keys, which bear his initials "G.P." as the author's signature. All these elements give the chest of drawers a majestic appearance, typical of Gaston Poisson's style.
With this piece you can clearly appreciate the work of the French School of the 1940's (Gaston Poisson, Charles Dudouyt) where the forms are monumentalized to create an exceptional piece of furniture, which although heavy because it is made of solid wood, seems to levitate on its elegant base. The doors, with this design, meet the standards of the most demanding interiors with elegance and boldness.
