This Italian item from the 1980s can actually not only be categorized as a console but has a more ambiguous and hybrid character. Due to its z-shape and height, this piece can be used in various ways. It can therefore serve as a console, but you can also sit on it or use it as an object in itself. Viewed from the side, the design unmistakably reminds us of Gerrit Rietveld's zig-zag chair. A chair that is widely seen as a pure example of synthesis between form, function, and construction. Perhaps this has also been the inspiration for the designer and a small nod has been made by shaking up the proportions of this design a bit. The outside consists of oak slats two centimeters thick and four centimeters wide that are tightly connected to each other. After twenty-six centimeters measured from the outside, the slats are placed alternately and something interesting happens. There is an equally large opening between each slat through which light can shine through and a beautiful shadow play is created on both sides. The oak is now accentuated with slats of walnuts that create a color hue. Because the nut slats are darker in color, it seems as if the shadow between the openings is thickened. The item is varnished in such a way that respects the natural look of the wood. As indicated earlier, this object lends itself to a play of light and shadow and, for example, with a light source at the back, can produce a stunning result. The condition of the item is very good to nearly perfect.
