Late Georgian ring with rose-cut diamonds circa 1790
The ring has a rose cut diamond center (5.50X5.65mm), weight approx. 0.50cts, surrounded by a halo of 12 smaller rose cut diamonds, weighing 0.48cts, in a floral or cluster pattern, which was a popular motif during the Georgian period.
Total diamond weight approx. 1 carat.
Total weight: 7.35g
Current ring size: (EU 60) US 91/4
The diamonds are rose cut, a technique widely used before the invention of modern brilliant cuts. This carving gives a domed shape with a flat base, often with irregular facets that subtly reflect light.
The darkened metal around the diamonds is silver, coated in foil to enhance brilliance in low light, another hallmark of Georgian jewelry.
The ring shank shows signs of age and wear, with a wonderful patina, hand-carved details, befitting Georgian craftsmanship. Mounted in silver and 14 karat gold.
