LIFE AND ART OF ACHILLE PERILLI
Born in Rome in 1927, after graduating from high school, Perilli enrolled in the Faculty of Letters, where he was a student of Lionello Venturi. He prepares a thesis on Giorgio de Chirico, but will not graduate. In 1945, with Dorazio, Guerrini, Vespignani, Buratti, Muccini and Maffioletti, founds the Social Group Art (GAS), and collaborates to the birth and the writing of the magazines Ariele and The Factory, organ of the GAS of which it exits an only number. The following year, he exhibited at the GAS exhibition along with Aymonino, Barbagallo, Busiri-Vici, Canonica, Dorazio, Guerrini, Vespignani, held in the section of the PSI in Via Molise, then at the exhibition award "The Factory" held on the sidewalks of Via Veneto. 1947 is the year of the birth of Forma 1, a movement with which the adhering artists write a manifesto in defense of abstract art, in opposition to the themes and the influence of the realist current in vogue in those years, for an art that would take up the tradition of the European avant-garde of the first decades of the twentieth century under the influence of Marxism. "We found ourselves in opposition to the Roman School, which clearly dominated," Perilli told us. "The Realist School was imposed by the Communist Party and so, in a sense, Guttuso became our enemy. An irremediable rift was created with him."
