Bocian (1912-2002) is the nickname of Bohumîr Strohalm, a Czechoslovak painter naturalized in France. He was born at Stravkov (Czechoslovak) and was a student of the Applied Art School of Czechoslovakia. He arrived in Paris in 1938 and joined the French army during the war. At the liberation, he pursued his studies at the Montpellier Faculty then Aix-en-Provence. He showed little of his work but started in 1949 to participate at the Paris Salon des Artistes Indépendants (*Independents Artists Salon ) then the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in 1973 (* New realities Salon ). He was first a drawer than a painter. He started using mixed techniques in 1950, a period where he realized large abstract and lyrical compositions. In 1960, he started created reliefs in plastic material. In 1954, from January the 12th to February the 12th; he was invited by André Breton to expose at the gallery A l’Étoile scellée. He returned to the Czech Republic in the 1990s with his wife and had an important retrospective in 1997-1998. Bocian firmato e datato. Tecnica mista su tela montata su telaio. Formato paesaggio, rappresentante una composizione astratta in tonalità ocra, forme sinuose nei colori bianco, nero e rosso. Firmato " Bocian " e datato 1949 in basso. Tela rilegata, cioè attaccata ad una tela esistente. Foderata probabilmente realizzata negli anni '80. Alcuni segni di restauro sulla tela. Bocian (1912-2002) è il soprannome di Bohumîr Strohalm, un pittore cecoslovacco naturalizzato in Francia. Nacque a Stravkov (Cecoslovacchia) e fu uno studente della Scuola d'Arte Applicata della Cecoslovacchia. Arrivò a Parigi nel 1938 e si unì all'esercito francese durante la guerra. Alla liberazione, ha proseguito i suoi studi alla facoltà di Montpellier e poi di Aix-en-Provence. Ha mostrato poco del suo lavoro ma ha cominciato nel 1949 a partecipare al Salon des Artistes Indépendants di Parigi (*Salone degli artisti indipendenti) poi al Salon des Réalités Nouvelles nel 1973 (*Salone delle nuove realtà). È stato prima un disegnatore che un pittore. Ha iniziato a usare tecniche miste nel 1950, periodo in cui ha realizzato grandi composizioni astratte e liriche. Nel 1960, ha iniziato a creare rilievi in materiale plastico. Nel 1954, dal 12 gennaio al 12 febbraio, fu invitato da André Breton ad esporre alla galleria A l'Étoile scellée. Ritornò nella Repubblica Ceca negli anni 1990 con sua moglie ed ebbe un'importante retrospettiva nel 1997-1998.
